We were contacted by a client carrying out an interior re-fit of a public library in Ireland. Their design required a hook-on library ladder and rails to access the books at the very top of the bookshelves – some three metres up!
Due to the weight considerations of a ladder made to reach 3 metres, we chose to construct it in aluminium. The client requested the library ladder be powder coated in black, which creates a great finish when using aluminium. Whilst the fittings and rails were chosen in a polished brass finish, unbeknown to us, to match the polished brass inlays, handles and lamps also intended for the library.
During the design process, our in house visualisation team provided 3D renders showing the design of ladder to be produced, enabling the client to fully understand the items to be created.
The final result is an impeccable example of traditional library style. Deep red, dark wood and polished brass create warmth – an ambiance synonymous with libraries and we think it is perfected in this scheme!
