Imagine… the breeze is warm, the air sweet… the table is set and your guests are on their way… a garden party is possibly the loveliest of gatherings, under the stars and surrounded by nature. We believe this was in mind when a client recently commissioned our team to make a very special bespoke garden table for their home in Italy.

In typical Mediterranean style, this table was to be simple, elegant and 4 metres long ! The client expressed preference for a stone-topped table, incorporating a cast iron base. The design had to be carefully calculated because the size of the table top, this meant that the weight the legs had to support was significant!

First things first…

The first item to agree was the type of stone for the tabletop. We are often asked to incorporate stone, marble or granite into various commissions and we have preferred suppliers who we work with. Having agreed to use limestone and the size (which needed to be supplied in two sections to meet at the centre), we were able to progress onto the table base.

We incorporated 3 of our own design cast iron table legs and a full length brace and top support frame in steel. . The cast iron elements were finished with our own patination and surface finish. A special topcoat was finally applied to all the metal to slow down the atmospheric effects of moisture coming into contact with the cast iron. Over time this topcoat will rub through, with a beautiful and unique natural patina developing on the metal surfaces.

Now fully installed in the Italian garden the lovely table is already making, ‘Al Fresco’ memories for its new owners !
