A Chicago-based interior designer approached us to bring to life her vision of sophisticated brass & glass bar shelving for a client’s home. We had previously collaborated on a bespoke brass shelving unit, so she was familiar with our design process and craftsmanship. She trusted us to create something truly special for this space.
The brief was clear: to create a decorative brass bar shelving unit that could display a curated selection of cocktail glasses and bottles. The shelving wasn’t just about function, it needed to be elegant, unique, and personalised to elevate the space.
The focal point? Bespoke finials—to be crafted by hand to reflect the client’s taste and bring a sense of identity to the piece.
After discussing ideas with the designer, we proposed handmade finials shaped like palm trees. These would lend a playful yet refined charm to the home bar shelving. These finials added personality while maintaining the timeless elegance of aged brass that matched the room’s existing fittings.
To help the client visualise the final result, we created detailed 3D renders of the shelving unit, complete with the bespoke palm tree finials. All our projects typically begin with a detailed 3D drawing, which is shared with the client for approval before we move into manufacture.
For this particular project, the designer had a clear creative direction in mind, and we worked closely with her to refine the aesthetic.
Each component of the bespoke shelving unit was handcrafted in our English workshops. One of our skilled craftsmen brought the vision to life, carefully forming the palm tree finials from solid brass. The brass was hand-patinated to achieve a rich, aged finish that exudes quality and character.
Our team of experienced craftsmen, many of whom have backgrounds in antique restoration, are experts in creating bespoke finishes. Whether matching existing fittings or developing something entirely new, we can produce both modern and antique-style patinas tailored to each project.
We also produce and approve physical samples of materials, finishes and patination, early in the process, which serve as a benchmark during key stages like patination. This ensures the final finish reflects the original vision with accuracy and consistency.
The bespoke finials, however, were just one element of these striking shelves. The entire bar was designed to be both functional and a dramatic statement piece within the room.
To enhance the sense of depth and light, a mirror was fitted behind the glass bar shelving onto which the brass fittings were cleverly mounted, passing through the mirror and into the wall behind for secure support. Most brass elements were from our standard range, apart from the custom top finials sculpted from solid brass to resemble palm fronds.
All components were then hand-patinated to match the existing aged brass finishes in the room. The result is a beautiful home bar perfect for elegant cocktail parties.
This project was located in the USA, and we regularly ship our bespoke work around the world for clients.
The shelving unit was custom made to exactly fit the space in the client’s room. It was then carefully taken apart and packed down to ship to our client. We provide detailed instructions to enable on-site teams to reassemble and install the shelving with ease. We can even offer to have a Zoom meeting with the fitters onsite to enable the bespoke pieces to be easily installed.
