At Andrew Nebbett Designs, our bespoke work often begins with a simple request from a discerning designer, and this project was no exception.
While we offer a range of retractable valet rods (also known as valet hooks), we are frequently approached to tailor these practical pieces to suit specific interiors. Designers and homeowners alike often seek not only bespoke metal finishes, but also custom sizing and backplate shapes to match their vision.
For this project, an interior designer came to us with a very specific request: to craft our classic retractable valet rod with square backplates, sized exactly to 75mm x 75mm. This was done to match the square detailing of the other fittings throughout the room.
Though the change may seem subtle, it’s exactly these kinds of details that elevate a space, bringing cohesion and intentionality to the overall design.
We’ve previously produced valet rods with rectangular and round backplates, but this was our first time producing them in a square format. The result was a striking, bold design that complemented the surrounding cabinetry and perfectly complimented the room’s overall aesthetic.
Retractable valet rods are as functional as they are elegant. They provide a discreet solution for hanging clothes, allowing garments to be prepped and displayed ahead of time, perfect for daily routines (such as airing, steaming or organisation) or special occasions (plan an outfit for an evening event). When not in use, they fold neatly back against the cabinetry, keeping the room looking streamlined and orderly.
Because of their compact design and elegant finish, these rods are ideal for retrofitting into existing wardrobes or dressing rooms, making them a favourite among interior designers working on high-end refurbishment projects.
To ensure the valet rods fit perfectly within the wider interior design, we finished each piece in expertly hand-patinated, aged brass. This warm, timeless finish echoed the other fittings in the room, creating a sense of harmony and understated luxury.
Of course, because of the bespoke nature of these valet rods we can also provide a range of other metal finishes and looks, including a hand patination service to match the metal colour to other fittings in the project or room.
