When a renowned celebrity chef in the UK set out to design the kitchen for their new home, they came to us with a clear vision: to create a bold, industrial centrepiece in the form of a bespoke cooker hoods that would not only perform at a professional level but also bring character and craftsmanship to the space.
Their request was for a one-of-a-kind, handcrafted cooker hood in aged zinc. Designed to anchor the room and celebrate the beauty of raw, honest materials.
From our workshop in the UK, we worked closely with the client, guiding them through every step of the bespoke process: from design visuals and patination samples to the final hand-finished piece. The result is a striking example of form meeting function, tailored entirely to its setting and its owner’s personal style.
In the UK, we call them cooker hoods; a functional piece above the hob that extracts steam and cooking fumes. Across the pond in the US, they’re often referred to as cooker exhausts. Different names but with the same purpose.
From the outset, this was a project rooted in close collaboration. The client wanted to be involved in every stage of the design process, and we are happy to oblige.
We began with detailed 3D visuals, which allowed the client to explore different proportions and styles within the context of their new kitchen layout. Alongside this, we produced handmade samples to showcase a variety of metal patinations, so the client could touch, see, and select the exact finish they wanted. Being able to see the materials in the room they will be used is so important as screens and print outs do not get across the full story of texture and colour in these beautiful metals. After reviewing the options, the client chose zinc, selecting it to match other metallic details throughout the kitchen.
For added texture and grounding within the space we created a beautifully aged patina. Our patinas are handcrafted to evoke a sense of timeless wear.
To enhance the industrial aesthetic, we incorporated visible rivets into the panel design. These weren’t just functional; they became a defining visual feature, adding texture and depth to the piece.
Beyond its visual appeal, this designer cooker hood was engineered to meet the rigorous demands of a professional kitchen. A commercial-grade cooker hood extractor fan was integrated into the frame, powerful enough to handle the high heat and heavy volume of a chef’s cooking, alongside custom lighting and a remote control system for ease of use.
The finished piece blends functionality, craftsmanship, and bold design. A one-of-a-kind hood that anchors the kitchen both visually and practically. Every element, from patination to panel join, was completed by hand in our workshop, ensuring it met our exacting standards, and the client’s.
