It solves a problem every wardrobe has: somewhere to hang tomorrow's outfit, a shirt back from the dry cleaner, or the jacket you're deciding whether to keep, without it ending up draped over a door or piled on a chair. It's also a considered interior design detail in its own right.

Each one adds a small, surprisingly useful focal point to the room, whether that's a single hook by your dressing area or a coordinated set across several spaces.
A folding hook mounts flush into a wall, pane, face frame or the side of a wardrobe and pulls down when you need it. Because it recesses completely, it suits narrow mullions on fitted wardrobes and shallow walls where a projecting fixture wouldn't fit.
A retractable hook has a front plate that is fixed to the wall via a circular or square face plate and the valet rod pulls out to hold clothes, then pushes back flush when not in use.
A fixed wall mounted hook doesn't retract or fold, it stays permanently extended, which makes it the sturdiest, most heavy duty option in the range, best suited to entrance halls, kitchens and boutique display.

Valet hooks are made from two core materials: brass and nickel plated brass. Depending on the design, hooks are either machined from solid brass or made from thick walled brass, chosen for how it takes a finish and holds up under repeated handling; it doesn’t chip or flake the way a lacquered surface can, because the colour runs through the metal rather than sitting on top of it. This is also what makes our valet hooks so strong and durable as well as beautiful. Nickel plating is applied over brass for a silver toned finish, giving the same strength with a cooler look.
For a unique touch, an acrylic (Lucite) rod can be added in place of the standard brass or nickel rod, giving the hook a lighter, more contemporary look while keeping the same solid fittings.
Brass and nickel plate wear differently over time, so the choice often comes down to how much of that journey you want to see. Brass develops a natural patina with handling, so a hook that's touched daily, in a hallway or dressing room, will slowly pick up character and warmth, each mark becoming part of its story. For this reason, we tend to recommend brass for high-use hooks: the more it's handled, the more patina develops, and that build-up of history is part of what makes the piece feel genuinely well used and well loved.
Polished nickel plate is equally hard wearing but stays much closer to its original look, so if you'd rather your valet hook looked the same in ten years as it does on day one, nickel is the better fit.
Both options are used just as often for daily hooks; it's really a question of taste. If you like the idea of a piece that visibly ages with your home, choose brass. If you prefer a consistent, unchanging finish, choose nickel.
Brass and nickel are both available polished, for a bright, reflective surface that shows off the metal at its most striking.
Brass and nickel are also available brushed, for a soft, matte texture that shows fewer fingerprints and marks day to day.
Beyond these two standard finishes, our patination service can age brass by hand, using techniques developed in our workshop, to match new pieces to existing fittings in a room or to give a piece the warmth of something decades old. This is how we finished the Bespoke Square Backplate Valet Rods project, where the client wanted the valet rods to echo other aged brass fittings already in the room.
We recommend gluing and screwing all valet hooks into their surface. As a bespoke option, we can also offer a retractable hook with no visible screws, a blank face plate that's glued into the cabinetry for a completely clean look.
There's no minimum order on bespoke finishes, we're happy to do just one hook. Lead times differ slightly though: our standard range ships in around a week, while a bespoke finish typically takes about three weeks.
Beyond holding a single outfit, a valet hook earns its place by solving a problem that most wardrobes never quite account for: where clothes go while they're in transition. Not put away, not being worn, just waiting, whether that's an outfit chosen the night before, dry cleaning back from being pressed, or a new piece you haven't decided where to store yet.
Without a dedicated spot, these items tend to end up over a door, on a chair, or bunched in with the rest of the hanging space, adding clutter rather than solving it. It's much better to give them one clear space, kept separate from your main storage so nothing gets creased, lost, or mixed in with clothes you've already sorted.
It's also useful well beyond the dressing room. The same principle applies to packing for a trip, staging a week's outfits in advance, or simply keeping a going-out jacket somewhere easy to grab. For something so small, it's one of the most functional additions you can make to a wardrobe, and worth including in almost any dressing room design, however much space you have to work with. The beauty is that they can be retrospectively fitted to existing cabinets, doors and walls.

Valet hooks are easy to fit. Fixed valet hooks need to be screwed to the wall or cabinetry. Retractable valet hooks require a hole to be drilled in the wall/cabinetry and can be screwed into place or glued. Folding valet hooks need to be set into the wall or cabinetry using a router by a carpenter.
